“Our hearts are evil, incapable of the wholeness and holiness God intended. The Servant, pure of heart, suffers and dies so that we can live.”
–The Quest Study Bible
When God reveals to us that our hearts are completely wicked and deceitful, it isn’t for us to become shameful or burdened, but to become humble and comforted knowing that the perfect God knows what’s in our hearts, and He loves us still.
Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”
Our hearts can be deceitful; lead us into thinking that what this world has to offer is actually “good” for us. We may not understand why, but Jesus does.
Although our hearts are wicked, incapable of being perfect or holy, we have access to His perfect grace to be righteous before His eyes.
When we begin to position ourselves in a humble posture, God reveals the ugliness in our hearts and renews us completely.
Let’s not let ourselves be deceived by what this world considers to be “good” and realize that true goodness is found in Him alone; He is the only one who knows what’s good, because it’s who He is.
Ask God to test your heart’s desires, so that you yourself may be able to see what’s been on your mind lately. Thank God and learn to be content with what you have and give your heart to Him. It’s all He’s ever wanted from you!
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”-Proverbs 4:23
